Like every summer of the late 1950s, the well-to-do New York Weissman family is on holidays in the Catskill mountains, where everything is perfectly planned. If there were not those troubles that irritate the idyll - daughter Midge and her husband Joel have separated, but nevertheless spend holidays together - and if it were not for Midge‘s big secret: For some time, she has been successful as a stand-up comedian in downtown clubs, but fears massive family resistance.
