1949 emigriert der ehemalige KZ-Häftling und gebürtige Berliner Hans Müller nach Israel, wo er sich aufgrund psychischer Probleme nicht an ein Leben in Friedenszeiten gewöhnen kann. Hans kann nicht vergessen. Seine Psyche ist erschüttert: "Ich bin der Jongleur und der Jonglierte" . Er versucht, seine geliebten Verstorbenen wiederzufinden, obwohl er weiß, dass sie getötet wurden. Er leidet an Klaustrophobie, und Douglas lässt uns seine Krankheit spüren (der Film verdankt diesem aussergewöhnlichen Schauspieler sehr viel), und jedes Mal, wenn er Männer in Uniform sieht, denkt er an seine Folterer.

In 1949, former concentration camp inmate and Berlin native Hans Muller, immigrates to Israel where, due to psychological problems, he can't adjust to peacetime life. Hans cannot forget. His psyche is shot. "I'm the juggler and the juggled". He tries to find back his dear departed, although he knows they were killed. He suffers from claustrophobia and Douglas makes us FEEL his disease (the film owes a great deal to this extraordinary actor),and every time he sees men in uniform, he thinks of his torturers.
