Schauplatz ist die fiktive Kleinstadt Benderath, irgendwo in Westdeutschland. Am Gymnasium gibt es eine Gruppe von Jungen, die sich "Trojaner" nennen und fest zusammenhalten. Als der faschistische Lehrer Päker den jüdischen Mitschüler Jakob als "feigen Orientalen" und "staatsfeindliches Element" beschimpft, fordern sie geschlossen die Rücknahme der Beleidigung. Da Päker sich weigert, verlassen sie die Schule, verschanzen sich auf einer Insel und stellen der Direktion ein Ultimatum. Die ganze Stadt ist in Aufregung, und die Eltern stellen sich hinter ihre Kinder. So gibt letztendlich auch der Stadtschulrat, der vorerst Päker unterstützte, klein bei und erfüllt das Ultimatum: Die Gymnasiasten kehren straffrei an die Schule zurück, Päker muss sich entschuldigen und wird an eine andere Schule versetzt. Typisch für die Produktionen der DEFA findet die Handlung in Westdeutschland statt. Jakobs Vater wird wegen seiner kommunistischen Aktivitäten festgenommen – ein Detail das dem kalten Krieg geschuldet ist.

The setting is the fictional small town of Benderath, somewhere in West Germany. At the high school there is a tight knit group of boys who call themselves "Trojans". When the fascist teacher Päker insults the Jewish classmate Jakob as a "cowardly Oriental" and "anti-state element", they unanimously demand that the insult be revoked. Since Päker refuses, they leave the school, hide on an island and give the school management an ultimatum. The whole town is in a state of agitation and the parents stand behind their children. In the end, the city school inspector, which initially supported Päker, also backs down and fulfills the ultimatum: The high school students return to school with impunity, Päker has to apologize and is transferred to another school. Typically for DEFA productions, the action takes place in West Germany. Jakob's father is arrested for his communist activities – a detail that is due to the cold war.
