Der alleinerziehende Vater Aharon hat sein Leben darauf ausgerichtet, sich um seinen autistischen Sohn Uri zu kümmern, wofür er sein eigenes Leben und seine Karriere auf Eis gelegt hat. Als nun Uris Mutter ihre Meinung äußert, dass es für Uri an der Zeit ist, ein eigenes, vom Vater getrenntes Leben zu beginnen, finden sich Vater und Sohn in einer herausfordernden Situation wieder. Wird Uri es schaffen, weg von zu Hause in einer Institution glücklich zu leben? Wird Aharon es schaffen, sich von seinem Kind zu trennen, dessen Bedürfnisse als Autist er als Vater so gut kennt wie kein anderer? Nir Bergman gelingt es, mit einem vielschichtigen Drehbuch und überzeugenden Hauptdarsteller:innen einen berührender Film, frei von Kitsch und Klischee, auf die Leinwand zu bringen. Shai Avivis minimalistische Spielkunst und Noam Imbers authentische Darstellung eines Autisten sind von einer Qualität, die noch lange im Gedächtnis bleiben wird.

Aharon is a single parent who has devoted his life to raising his autistic son Uri. They live together in a gentle routine, away from the real world. When Uri’s mother decides that it is time for Uri to live life more independently, separated from his father, they are confronted with a difficult and unusual situation. Aharon is especially worried that Uri, who has relied on his father’s help and care in so many aspects of his life, won’t be able to adjust to live in a care home or an institution. Preoccupied with worries about his son’s wellbeing, he forgets to confront his own emotions whether it might in fact be him, the father, who is not able ready to be separated from his son. Nir Bergman orchestrated a touching story, free of kitsch and cliché, carried out by the talented Shai Avivi and Noam Imber whose portrayal of Uri won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
