Jerusalem zur Zeit des Britischen Mandats. Der kleine Mouize liebt es, seinen Vater, der als Filmvorführer im Kino tätig ist, zur Arbeit zu begleiten,. Eines Tages trifft Mouize dort auf die kleine Ranin, deren Mutter im Kino an der Popcorn-Kasse arbeitet. Ohne einander mit Worten zu verstehen, schließen die beiden auf der Stelle Freundschaft. Sie verlassen die Realität und flüchten gemeinsam in die Welt der Filme.

 

Mouize, a young Jewish boy, accompanies his father to work at the cinema. There he meets Ranin, an Arab girl. Without understanding a word from one another, the two quickly develop a friendship. While she provides popcorn from her mother’s workplace, he offers the window from the projection room as the prime spot to watch films. Together they escape the reality of the divided city of Jerusalem and dive into the world of films.

Sechs junge Männer reflektieren über die Sinnhaftigkeit ihrer Aufgaben während des Militärdiensts in Hebron, einer palästinensischen Stadt mit jüdischer Minderheit im Westjordanland. Ihre Aufgabe als Soldaten war es in erster Linie, die jüdischen Siedler in der Stadt zu schützen und es ihnen zu ermöglichen, sich frei durch die Stadt zu bewegen, völlig egal welche Einschränkungen dies für die palästinensische Bevölkerung bedeutete.

 

Six young men reflect on their military service in the city of Hebron. Their main task was to protect the Jewish settlers living in the otherwise Palestinian city. The soldiers had to make sure, the Jewish settlers could move freely around the city, regardless of the restrictions and limitations that would mean for the Palestinian population.

Rotem konfrontiert ihre Mutter Varda mit deren 8mm-Kindheitsfilmen aus dem Tel Aviv der 1960er-Jahre, die einst von Rotems Großmutter gedreht wurden und 50 Jahre im Archiv versteckt lagen. Ein poetisch-subtiler Versuch einer Annäherung zwischen Tochter und Mutter.

 

For 50 years a family archive has sat in the dark, until Rotem persuades her mother Varda to re-watch her childhood. 8mm films are discovered as documentation of an amateur filmmaker, Varda's mother, who back in the day documented her life in Tel Aviv during the late 1960s. The films shed light on past memories mixed with the present, of mother-daughter relationships.

Ohne Worte wird die Geschichte eines Fabrikarbeiters in Osteuropa erzählt, der Tag für Tag das defekte Fließband repariert, glücklicherweise immer neben jener Mitarbeiterin, die der Arbeiter aus der Ferne still verehrt. Die übrigen Ersatzteile investiert der Mann in eine ganz besondere Erfindung, die er Stück für Stück auf dem Dach zusammenbaut.

 

Day in, day out, a factory mechanic repairs the broken conveyor. He cherishes these short moments of repairs as he gets to see the factory worker he has grown to love from afar. With the leftover pieces from the repairs he assembles an enigmatic machine on the roof of his house that will eventually turn his life upside-down.

Nach dem Tod ihres Vaters stehen die Geschwister Roz und Elli vor einem Dilemma: Der letzte Wunsch des Vaters war es gewesen, seine Asche mit einem Ballon ins Weltall fliegen zu lassen. Während Roz alles daran setzt, diesen Wunsch zu erfüllen, beharrt Elli auf eine traditionelle Beisetzung und möchte ihn am jüdischen Friedhof begraben.

 

Siblings Roz and Elli are confronted with a difficult situation after their father’s death. Elli wants to have a traditional Jewish burial, while Roz is eager to fulfill their father’s last wishes and have his ashes sent to space with a balloon. The disagreement turns into a battleground for who will determine their pop's final journey.

Seit über 30 Jahren ist die nun 94-jährige Jüdin Rina treue Kundin des palästinensischen Malers Zaki. Seit er bei einem Auftrag gebeten hatte, auf ihrem Sofa zu übernachten, um die Wartezeiten am Checkpoint zu vermeiden, verbindet die beiden eine tiefe Freundschaft. Voll Vorfreude kocht die Pensionistin arabisches Essen nach alter Familientradition, hängt die Vorhänge ab und bereitet die Möbel für den Besuch des Malers und langjährigen Freundes vor.

 

The Palestinian painter Zaki has painted the home of the Israeli Jew Rina for over 30 years. He usually spends the night on the sofa in order to avoid waiting at the checkpoint. For the entire morning, the elderly woman is in preparation for the painter’s visit. The 94-year old lady moves the furniture away from the wall, takes down the pictures and cooks Arabic food according to a family recipe in anticipation of her friend’s visit.
