Die palästinensisch-israelische Regisseurin Maha Haj portraitiert in ihrem Spielfilm-Debut „Personal Affairs“ das Leben einer ganz gewöhnlichen palästinensischen Familie zwischen Nazareth, Ramallah und Schweden. Die Familienmitglieder, ob jung oder alt, verfolgen ihre konventionellen wie universalen Leidenschaften und Träume: Liebe, Familie, Tanz, Schauspiel, Karriere. Für den Konflikt um sie herum, mit dem sie sich arrangiert haben, zeigen sie wenig Interesse.

„Personal Affairs“ ist ein Film über das Leben. In einem Gespräch mit der Zeitung Haaretz forderte die Regisseurin: „I would like my people to always choose life, instead of blowing itself up in anger. Life is very precious, and there’s an alternative.”

Palestinian-Israeli director Maha Haj’s debut feature film highlights the life of an ordinary Palestinian family between Nazareth, Ramallah and Sweden. The family members follow quite conventional yet universal life concepts: Love, Family, Dancing, Acting, Career. Very little attention is given to the conflict surrounding them.

“Personal Affairs” is a movie about life, in an interview with Haaretz the director claimed: „I would like my people to always choose life, instead of blowing itself up in anger. Life is very precious, and there’s an alternative.”
