Die Geschichte beginnt mit einem Foto, das 80 Jahre lang versteckt war. Es hat den glücklichen Moment der Hochzeit von Margot Klausner, der Großmutter der Filmemacherin, im Berlin von 1926 eingefroren. Die Geschichte der Liebe einer Frau zu zwei Männern, zum Theater, zu ihren Kindern und zum Land Israel wird hier erzählt, aber auch was der Preis für diese Liebe war. Margot Klausner hat eine wichtige Rolle bei der Gründung des israelischen Nationaltheaters Habimah und des ersten Filmstudios in Herzlia 1949 gespielt.

“Saga of a Photo” is at once a personal biography (at times insular and moody) and a broader, more public depiction of the nascence of Israel’s National Theater and Film Industry. Director Mooly Landesman’s grandmother was Margot Klausner, an important figure in the foundation of Israel’s Habimah National Theater and the undeniable first lady of the Israeli Film Industry – with her studio (the first in Israel) Herzliya built in 1949.
